the result was this, nowadays not really accepted, tire wall that was put up, it did what it had to do, slow the cars down, but the sight of it was quite appalling, it was even nicknamed Beirut by some, making you think of a warzone roadside checkpoint
the following year the Nissan corner disappeared in favour of a longer straight towards the La Caixa corner, a safe but also clinical solution
the race itself will be remembered for Michael Schumacher’s amazing feat to finish 2nd with a Benetton-Ford that was stuck in 5th gear, he even managed to pull off a pit stop in 5th, the race was won by Damon Hill
