Jacky Ickx, Ferrari 312B, 1970 US Grand Prix, Watkins Glen
Jacky scored pole & fastest lap during the weekend, but during the race his Ferrari suffered a broken fuel line, which he had to let be repaired in the pits, he rejoined the race in 12th position & fought his way back to 4th
a great race by Ickx, but it also meant it wasn’t enough to catch Jochen Rindt’s championship lead of 45 points
Ickx did win the ultimate Grand Prix, in Mexico, 3 weeks later & finished as vice-champion in the standings
afterwards Ickx declared he was happy not to have caught up with Rindt, it wasn’t the way he wanted to become world champion
