it was the last year that the french based team, Tech 3, teamed up with Honda, switching to Yamaha in 1999, with which they would become world champion, together with Olivier Jacque aboard the YZR250 in 2000 (Shinya Nakana would be runner up)
the partnership between Hervé Poncharal’s Tech 3 team & Yamaha still goes on today
