payback time …

Troy Bayliss got another shot at MotoGP as a wildcard for Ducati Corse during the last Grand Prix of 2006 at Valencia
the amicable Aussie was sacked from the factory Ducati squad at the end of 2004 after a horrible second season on the desmosedici
Bayliss found a ride at the semi-factory Pons-Honda team, but results during that season never lived up to the expectations set during pre-season testing
in 2006 Bayliss returned to World Superbikes & his beloved Ducati Corse (were had been riding from ‘00 up until ‘04) & he grabbed the championship on the factory 999F06 immediately
as thanks for his efforts during the season Bayliss got a ride on the MotoGP machine in Valencia, on Saturday he qualified second & on Sunday he had an excellent start, overtook his team mate Capirossi (who was on pole) & defended his lead all through the race to take that maiden win in MotoGP

Bayliss could now retire from MotoGP with his head held high, he had proven he was a race winner, as he had done so many times before in World Superbike
